Jade Adams... I’m a 24 year old female from the one and only Mother City, working as an Administrator at Old Mutual Head Office. I love my family, boyfriend, friends and soccer. Like shopping, clubbing and live to party up a storm along with my fellow Urban Chicks as we’re known, lol…

How many soccer jerseys of Ajax Cape Town have you bought since you started supporting them?
I currently sport the latest replica jersey. It’s the only one I bought since I became a fan. I fell in love with Ajax at my first live match where they beat Bloemfontein Celtic at Cape Town Stadium on the 27th August 2010.

Who is your best friend from the enemy camp (Santos or Vasco)?
I’d have to say Cole Alexander from Vasco, he has a lot of potential, hope Ajax will make use of him in the new season.

Do you attend all Ajax Cape Town games?
Almost all home matches, unless work keeps me too busy. Will be going on my first trip to an away game with the supporters club to Johannesburg against Kaizer Chiefs 07/05/2011.

Who should be Ajax’s new coach as Foppe de Haan has decided to retire at the end of the season?
Would have been great if De Haan weren’t retiring coz he has added much value to the team and helped them get this far (much respect and good luck to coach). But someone like Gavin Hunt - he has won the league many times with SuperSport so I personally think he can keep the Ajax team on the high they’re on at the moment.

How much do you spend roughly on your team’s merchandise a season?
I have spent about R550 this season on a replica jersey, flag and accessories (need to be kitted in red & white from head to toe. Pity you cannot see my pumps in the picture, lol.)

Who do you think will be Absa PSL Player of the Season?
Don’t think… I know, Thulani “Mr. Magic” Serero.

I have so many, but Clayton Daniels.

Beating Orlando Pirates 3-0 at Newlands stadium, it was pure greatness.

Chiefs bring out a real competition to us, hence I always pray when going to that Derby.

Eish, I don’t know, mara it’s well over 2-grand.

Have you ever cried after your team lost a game?
I have never cried! I think somebody rubbed onion into my eyes and obviously tears rolled out… hahahahahaha! But I remember crying after my team beat the other yellow team 1-0 in the 2nd leg of the MTN8 semi-final… Eish, tears of joy, my man!

Best-ever game you’ve watched at the stadium and via television?
At the stadium it has to be Orlando Pirates vs. Bidvest Wits, when we came back from 2-0 to win the game 3-2! And the best game I’ve seen on TV was when I beat Chiefs 8-0 on Playstation… hahahahaha. But I think it has to be the 4-4 draw between Ajax and Sundowns.

Have you drunk beer/juice using your Vuvuzela?
As a soccer fanatic you need to use your weapons wisely and drinking beer outta a vuvu is something you need to try! The beer goes down like Cristiano Ronaldo in the box!!

I rate the Celtic fans ‘cause I just love it when they swear at us every time we beat them… I hate Chiefs fans.

I'm MTN8 Last Fan Standing

Malose Kutumela aka Papas 15, a Kaizer Chiefs supporter, was the second winner of the MTN8 Last Fan Standing started by MTN last year. The South African public was asked to text the words ‘Wafa Wafa’ to an MTN hotline and Kutumela emerged as the winner.

DiskiOff: How does it feel to be the winner of the second MTN8 Last Fan Standing?

Malose Kutumela: I feel very happy and lucky as there are a lot of people who entered the competition and to be last fan is something very special to me.

What have you done to be The MTN8 Last Fan Standing?
As an MTN customer, I entered the competition by sms’ing the word ‘WAFA WAFA’ to 083 123 wafa/9232 and a day before final we wrote a football trivia quiz which then decided the Last Fan Standing from 8 nominees.

What was the prize?
The ultimate prize fully sponsored by MTN is: A trip to Manchester United at Old Trafford, the Theatre of Dreams! Package includes flights, transfers, accommodation and match tickets and I will experience a museum and stadium tour of Old Trafford as well as receiving autographed Manchester United merchandise.

How was this year’s MTN8 and were you happy with your team’s performance in the tournament?
I was fairly happy because we lost to a team that were hungrier than my team as they played like the last game of their life.

Which player was the star for you in the tournament?
Andile Jali (Orlando Pirates midfielder)

Which game stood out for you in the tournament?
The final - because it was the game where I was announced as an eventual winner of the Last Fan Standing… very emotional.

What do you think of the PSL raising tickets to R40?
It’s not a bad price at all considering the rentals of new stadiums, but as for the product we are paying for … it’s not worth the money.

Which player is your favourite in Bafana Bafana and why?
Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper), he is a true role model to a lot of youngsters and disciplined as well.

Which team do you support overseas and why?
Manchester United, for their consistency (coach and players) and striving to be the best on planet earth.

What is your message to South African fans?
Let’s rally behind all our national teams regardless of the age or sex and stop hooliganism in the stadiums and please be MTN customers so that you can also be like me.

Ngocbo awarded Guinness World Record for World Cup matches

South African football fan, 29 year old Thulani Ngcobo who hails from Soshanguve in Gauteng has set a brand new Guinness World Record for “the most FIFA World Cup™ matches attended by an individual”, after attending 21 full matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, according to Guinness World Records.

The number of matches to beat was 20 and at the end of the Chile vs Spain encounter at Loftus on Friday night, Ngcobo officially set a new record of 21 matches.

After winning the MTN8 Last Fan Standing competition in South Africa last year, with a prize to attend 38 FIFA World Cup™ matches during 2010, Ngcobo submitted a claim to Guinness World Record, which revealed that no previous claim existed. With no previous record holder in place, after an intense research phase during which researchers took into account the locations and times of the matches and calculated the humanly-possible permutations of achieving such a record, they set the number of matches to beat at 20, which they believe requires a serious and concerted effort on the contestants’ part. The Chile vs Spain match, was Ngcobo’s 28th of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, and the 21st full match towards his Guinness World Record.

According to the organisation that vets and validates global record attempts, in order for a match to be considered “attended” and to count towards Ngcobo’s record, the contestant needed to be present from the kick off (signalled by the referee's whistle) until the end of the game (signalled by the referee's whistle or when the final penalty of the shootout has been taken.

Due to Ngcobo’s tight schedule of matches during the group stage, when he attended up to two matches a day on many of the days, he either arrived after kick off or left before the final whistle during seven of the matches in order to make another match, resulting in these not counting towards his goal of 21 matches.

“I’m really proud to set this Guinness World Record as a South African and to show the world how much we love the game. This is the most amazing experience of my life, it’s unbelievable. I’m so passionate about football and even though it’s very tough and exhausting, with lots of travel and very little sleep, I’m loving every moment. I used to tell everyone that I “live, eat and sleep football”, but now I really know what that means. Ayoba MTN!”

Veli Mabena, General Manager: Brand & Communications at MTN South Africa: “We are proud of Thulani’s achievement as this has been a very challenging task. He has been the ideal ambassador for MTN - the fact that he still shows energy and commitment no matter the circumstances - his ‘can do’ attitude exemplifies our brand values.

Ngcobo had a “Witness Sheet” which had to be signed by two (2) independent witnesses at the various stadiums (spectators sitting next to him) to validate that he watched the full 90 minutes. Supporting material, such as match ticket stubs, photographs and video footage, were also required by Guinness World Record to verify the claim.

Guinness World Record adjudicator, Jason Curran, who arrived in South Africa this week to scrutinize Ngcobo’s claim, presented Ngcobo with an official Guinness World Record certificate for his efforts, after Ngcobo watched his 21st full match of the 28 matches attended so far, at the end of the Spain vs Chile encounter at Loftus.

But it didn’t all end at Loftus. With 10 more matches after the Chile vs Spain match, including a few round of Last 16,all of the Quarter finals, Semi finals and Final still on his schedule, Ngcobo will try to further the president set, by attending these matches as well in the coming weeks, aiming to ultimately set the record at 31 matches.

Guinness World Record adjudicator, Curran who sat next to Ngcobo during the Chile vs Spain match explained after he congratulated Ngcobo on his achievement: “We always encourage applicants to try to stretch themselves to set the best possible record in order to maintain their official Guinness World Record holder status for as long as possible.

So it will be great that Thulani will continue his record attempt after achieving the target set, so that he can achieve the highest number of games possible, which will then be logged as the official record in our book.”

Ngcobo, or “Ngcobo 2010” as he is commonly known, became the luckiest football fan when he entered and won the MTN8 Last Fan Standing competition in South Africa last year, with an incredible prize to attend 38 FIFA World Cup matches during 2010, travelling more than 17 000 kilometers to watch about 3420 minutes of football live. The MTN8 is a football tournament featuring the top eight teams in the South African premier league, during which tournament sponsor MTN ran the “Last Fan Standing” consumer competition for supporters during the tournament.

Ngcobo’s name was drawn as one of the weekly winners, and became one of eight finalists, who were eventually pitted against each other in a 40-question Football Trivia Quiz about the World Cup dating back to the 1930’s and the MTN8 tournament. Ngcobo came out with flying colours and was announced as the ultimate football fan.
